DFM Report
DFM report, full name "Design for Manufacturing Report". DFM report is an important evaluation work carried out in the product design and manufacturing process. Aluminum Die Casting
Features:
1. Lightweight (density 2.7g/cm³, 1/3 of steel);
2. Good strength/weight ratio, thermal conductivity, and corrosion resistance;
3. Medium fluidity, requiring higher injection pressure;
4. Large shrinkage (0.4-0.7%), prone to shrinkage holes;
Common grades: ADC12, A380, AlSi9Cu3.
Key points of mold design:
1. Strong cooling system is required;
2. Gate design avoids air entrapment;
3. Mold steel needs high heat resistance;
Zinc Die Casting
Features:
1. Excellent fluidity (can fill as thin as 0.2mm wall thickness);
2. High dimensional stability (shrinkage rate about 0.7%)
3. Good surface finish, suitable for electroplating /spraying;
4. High density (6.6g/cm³), poor creep resistance;
Common grades: Zamak 3, Zamak 5, ZA-8
Key points of mold design:
1. The melting point of zinc is only 385°C, which causes little damage to the mold;
2. It can produce complex and fine structures;
3. The cost of mold steel is lower than that of aluminum alloy mold;
Magnesium Die Casting
Features:
1. The lightest metal structural material (density 1.8g/cm³);
2. Higher specific strength than aluminum alloy, earthquake resistance and noise reduction;
3. Flammable (requires SF₆ protective gas), high cost;
Common grades: AZ91D, AM60Bv
Key points of mold design:
1. Strict flameproof design is required (barrel/mold sealing);
2. Fast filling (magnesium solidifies quickly, the gate speed must reach 80m/s);
3. Mold steel must be corrosion-resistant (magnesium is chemically active);
